Wall Drawing Series: Ronny Quevedo features a site-specific work titled C A R A A C A R A (2024). This 36-foot triptych explores themes of origin, transfer, and translation, with each panel representing a different step in Quevedo’s process. Quevedo uses schematic renderings and interconnected diagrams to examine the relationships between body, home, field, globe, and celestial spaces, drawing from abstraction, cartography, cosmology, and sport across the Americas. The title, meaning “face-to-face” in English, refers to the “face” or visible side of fabric used in sewing patterns, symbolizing encounters or confrontations. Each panel builds upon the previous one, using marks, heat, wax, mica, and chalk to create a visual narrative of inherited history, its influence on the present, and its legacy for the future.

Wall Drawing Series: Ronny Quevedo is curated by Kelly Montana, Associate Curator, Menil Drawing Institute. The Drawing Institute’s Wall Drawing Series began in 2018 as part of the Drawing Institute’s commitment to seeking new approaches to the form and language of drawing. Past participants include Marc Bauer, Mel Bochner, Roni Horn, Marcia Kure, and Jorinde Voigt.
